After spending two seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes, former UConn Huskies wide receiver/punt returner Larry Taylor was given a chance to pursue his NFL dream by the New York Jets. Back in January, the Jets signed him to reserves/futures contract.
Well unless someone else picks him up, his dream will have to wait as he was released by the Jets on Friday according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.
During the four preseason games, Taylor had two rushes for one yard and also had four catches for 40 yards. But the Jets brought him for his return skills that earned him the CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player as well as a CFL All-Star in 2009.
Taylor had six return chances with one fair catch. He averaged 9.7 yards per return and his longest return was only for 15 yards. He did lead the Jets with seven kickoff returns for 175 yards including a long of 30 yards.
Obviously the Jets have gone another way with whom they want returning the ball. Hopefully someone out there will give him another chance.
I do wonder if he could he quite possibly end up in the UFL or maybe back in the CFL? I’m sure we’ll find out the answer to that question over the coming days.
