2011 Recruit Preview…Michael Bennett

tBBC continues our look at Ohio State’s 2011 commits, what they have done on the season, a preview of their upcoming game, and a brief synopsis of what to expect when they get to Columbus.

This week we take a look at Michael Bennett, 6’3” 280lb DT playing for the Centerville Elks.

2011 Recruit Preview...Michael Bennett

I have not been able to get out and see Michael live yet, but after reading reviews and viewing his film it is easy to see why many are so so high on him, and have him in the conversation as the best in the state.   Personally, I have him at #2, behind only Braxton Miller. Mike committed to Ohio State back in May, following in the footsteps of AJ Hawk, Mike Nugent, and Kirk Herbstreit as Elks that played college ball for Ohio State.

Calm before the storm

Michael has led Centerville to a 3-0 record and anchors both the offensive and defensive lines.  From live reports he has just been punishing guys with a ton of pancakes, and destroying O-lineman when given the opportunity.  Michael and Centerville have a big game this weekend against St. Ignatius.

Bennett not only excels on the football field, but he finished 6th in the discus throw and 3rd in Shot Put at the state track meet.  He is also a black-belt in karate, and comes from a family of West Point grads.  He has intentions to attend medical school after football.

While a great kid off the field, Big Mike is a man among boys on the high school football field. He looks like he has been shot out of a cannon when coming out of his stance, making contact, keeps his feet moving, and drives offensive lineman or defenders right into the ground.

He has great feet, side to side movement, and initial punch, and destroys what he hits.  With his size and ability, and with some of the anticipated losses due to graduation and the like, he could see time as a frosh next fall.
