There was a bad vibe around last week’s Colts game.
You could argue that it was just my own expectations getting me down, but with the drama of Gonzo’s comments, the punt return uncertainty, the injuries to CJ and Saturday, and the reality of a tough road game to open the year, something felt off about the whole week. Sure enough, the Colts started slow and finished worse last week and lost 34-24.
This week has felt as good as last week did bad. There was no drama about anyone’s status as the Colts shockingly announced on a Tuesday that Sanders was having surgery and that Gonzo was out this week. Caldwell had upbeat and encouraging words about fixing the defense. And finally, Gary Brackett gave this quote:
“People have written us off before,” Brackett said. “Ask them how that went.”
That’s what I want to hear. One of the best leaders on the team talking like he has a serious chip on his shoulder. This week, I get the sense that the coaches are on top of the situation and that the players are locked and loaded. Maybe it’s just because I expect Indy to win tonight’s game comfortably. Who knows?
There’s a good vibe around tonight’s game.
