Two Commitments: One Football, One Basketball

On Friday, Kyle Kalis became the 3rd verbal commitment in the 2012 football class.  He joins Columbus DeSales RB Warren Ball and Olentangy LB Josh Perry.

Kyle at the Shoe

Kalis is a 6’5” 300lb monster OT from Cleveland St. Ed’s, and could be the guy that protects Braxton Miller’s blind-side in a couple of years.  Next year he will be the top rated lineman in the state of Ohio, and he very well could be the best lineman this year regardless of class.

Getting a verbal from Kalis is a very good follow up to our 2011 class, where we nabbed quite a few interior guys.

Kyle’s game is suited for the outside, and he already has the size as a high school junior to be able to compete at the college level.  He will need to add strength and work on his footwork.

Kyle will follow in Alex Boone’s footsteps as a highly touted offensive tackle to come down Interstate 71 from St. Ed’s to Ohio State.

Sam Thompson became the 3rd commitment to Thad Matta and the basketball team for the 2011 class.

He joins Georgia’s Shannon Scott and New Jersey’s LaQuinton Ross in the 2011 group.  Much like Ross, Thompson is a 6’7” wing, and is following Evan Tuner’s footsteps from the state of Illinois to Ohio State.

Elevating for the jumper

His skillset: a “long” player with the ability to get to the rim, he can also pull up and hit the jumper with the range to hit from deep consistently.  He also has defensive skills. He is a good shot blocker from the wing position, and is tall enough to be a troublesome opponent for good offensive players.

Sam is a very talented player, and has the potential to be a great player at Ohio State with the skills that he possesses.

This is a huge pickup for Matta and staff.

They will look for a “big” to fill out this class with two wings and a point already in the class.
