Sara Hammond Chooses Louisville Over UConn Women

As you can expect, the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team was in on another top recruit in Sara Hammond of Mt. Vernon, KY. And while the UConn women have won 78 straight games, they can’t always win the battles in recruiting.

Sara HammondHammond, ranked No. 12 by ESPN’s HoopGurlz, has decided to stay close to home and play for Jeff Walz and the Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball team.

Passing up UConn was really hard for me. But I had to pick a place where I knew I was going to be happy. I always dreamed of going to UConn and winning national championships. But I had to go where I felt wanted and that was Louisville. I have built a great relationship with coach Walz.”

Don’t worry though UConn women’s fans, the Huskies already have two top recruits for the 2011 class in Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, ranked No. 1 by HoopGurlz, and Brianna Banks, who is ranked No. 24.

They are also on the trail of No. 11 recruit Betnijah Laney, No. 13 recruit Temi Fagbenle and No. 42 recruit Kiah Stokes.
