The weekly honors for the Big East are out and we find a member of the UConn Huskies football team named as one of the players of the week.
Huskies linebacker Sio Moore was honored as the Big East Defensive Player of the Week for his performance on Saturday.
Moore, who took over as a starter for Greg Lloyd, had a career-high 16 tackles and an interception in UConn’s 45-21 win over the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday afternoon at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT. It was also the first career start for Moore.
Robbie Frey was also honored by the Big East as he was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Frey came off the bench after the injury to Meme Wylie and ran for 112 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown. With that effort, he has supplanted D.J. Shoemate as the No. 2 back and he’ll also be the top back until Jordan Todman returns from his injury.
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday at noon when the Vanderbilt Commodores come to Rentschler Field. It is homecoming weekend for the Huskies.
