Rotoworld reports that Kenny Moore, the Colts kick and punt returner who fumbled twice – one of which resulted in a turnover – in Sunday’s contest against the Washington Redskins, has been released. NFL.com indicates that Indianapolis also parted ways with practice squad running back Brandon Minor, and replaced him with running back Josh Vaughan.
Vaughan is a beastly rusher compared to a typical Colts back. When one considers that recent addition Andre Brown is an inch taller and ten pounds heavier than Joseph Addai, the knowledge that Vaughan is eight pounds heavier still (6-feet 232 pounds) puts him into perspective.
Vaughan played college football at Richmond, accumulating 3,379 rushing yards and 34 rushing touchdowns. He added 46 receptions for 369 yards and 1 receiving touchdown. Throughout his entire career, with 657 total touches on offense, he did not fumble once. Most encouraging about his future is that his senior season was other worldly, including 354 rushes for 1884 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns, and 19 receptions for 67 yards.
Vaughan originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Since then, he has spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers but has not been able to stick on an NFL roster. What is somewhat misleading about his freakish senior season statistics is that Richmond is an FCS school, meaning he played against much lower competition than most of the running backs in the league. He did manage a 4.59 40 yard dash, is strong, and powerful but his future with the Colts is tenuous at best unless he really shows something and develops into the Colts system on the practice squad.
