Gonzalez said he is trying to not let the absence of Clark and Collie factor into his return.
“I try not to,” he said. “Last year with my knee, I kind of let factor in. When we were playing the (San Francisco) 49ers, (wide receiver) Reggie (Wayne) was questionable or whatever. I tried to force the issue. That was obviously not the right move.
“Last year, I did maybe let that dictate my decisions. I’ll try not to do that this year. We’ve been pretty good about how we’ve handled it. We’re progressing. We’re taking each step. We’re doing what we’re supposed to do.
“I feel good about the progress we’ve made. I am optimistic. I’d be surprised if I didn’t play.”
