(Note: Additional Game Telecasts Will Be Announced Soon as Broadcast Plans are Finalized)
HARTFORD, Conn. (October 25, 2010) – Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) is pleased to announce its broadcast schedule for the 2010-2011 UConn Women’s Basketball season. In its 16th season of coverage, CPTV’s broadcasts (as of press time) include 17 confirmed games (with additional game telecasts to be announced as details are confirmed) and nine editions of The Geno Auriemma Show are currently confirmed with the dates of three more to be determined soon. CPTV’s UConn broadcasts are made possible by our Founding Sponsors: Big Y World Class Market and Yankee Gas, as well as our Signature Sponsors: Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center and People’s United Bank.
As in years past, Bob Picozzi returns to provide play-by-play for the CPTV broadcasts and Meghan Culmo will provide color commentary. CPTV’s UConn programming this season will also include two special editions of The Geno Auriemma Show. On November 9, CPTV will broadcast You Make the Call, a live, call-in edition of the coach’s show, and on February 10, the station will broadcast Geno Live! a live, on-location special featuring the UConn head coach, a panel of special guests and an audience of fans. Plus, CPTV will present a special evening of programming on the February 28 Senior Night with the special, A Tribute to the Class of 2011 and coverage of the Senior Ceremony at center court.
This season will be covered both on air and online with Hoop Streams, CPTV’s live and on-demand source for CPTV-produced UConn games, The Geno Auriemma Show, and archived games. The subscription-only service boasts improved video quality and streaming speeds over years past. For more information, visit CPTV.org, keywords: Hoop Streams.
Leading the charge will be two-time Wade Award Winner (and 2009 Naismith Trophy winner) Maya Moore and Wade Watch selection Tiffany Hayes. The team will look to its highly touted freshman class to make an immediate impact on the court. Head Coach Geno Auriemma, fresh off of a 2010 FIBA World Championship gold medal, will return for his 26th season as head coach. When asked if the Huskies can win another title this year, Auriemma responded, “People are going to expect us to win a national championship because we’ve got Maya Moore, and I would say: ‘Good. So do I.'” The preseason prognosticators agree; Athlon, Lindy’s Sports and The Sporting News have all selected the defending national champions as No. 1 in their preseason rankings.
CPTV is the TV Broadcast Home of UConn Women’s Basketball and has been broadcasting the team’s games since 1994. With some of the consistently highest ratings and strongest membership levels of any program on public television over the past 15 years, UConn Women’s Basketball on CPTV is considered by many to be the most successful local franchise in public television history.
