2010 High School Playoffs: Week 2

This week we take a look back at last week’s action, and a preview to the coming weeks games, with particular emphasis on future Buckeyes.

Week One Recaps- winners highlighted

Division I

  • Glenville vs. Warren Harding

Shayne Wynn had a huge night, with 101 yards rushing, 32 yards in receptions and two touchdowns in addition to a 68 yard punt return.  Cardale Jones finished 10 of 15 passes for 183 yards with 2 tTDs throwing and 1 rushing.  Jones is in the mix for the last offer from the Buckeyes; I look for Walker, Wynn, and Jones to all be part of the 2011 class.

  • Lakewood St. Eds vs. Mentor

Game was on STO so I got a chance to watch 2012 commit Kyle Kalis.  Man is he dominating;  he is already 305 pounds, and looks the part of a college Offensive Tackle.  He lined up at RT, but he has the ability to play on the left side as well. From what I saw, he will need to work on his knee bend and playing lower when he gets to Columbus, and also the initial punch that keeps defensive linemen from getting into his chest. However, going up against 2012 target Tom Strobel at times, he looked very good in both run blocking and pass blocking, Kalis really uses his hands well.

  • Canton McKinley vs. Medina

Steve Miller played in his last high school game as Medina upset McKinley.

  • Sylvania Southview vs. Twinsburg
  • Game of Week: Toledo Whitmer vs. Massilon Washington

I made a pretty good call on the game of the week! In his last high school game Devin Smith showed why he is going to be an amazing WR for Ohio State, with 5 receptions for 100yds and a TD.  Both Kenny Hayes and Chris Wormley helped Whitmer to a tune of 8 total sacks!  The game went back and forth until the very end when Whitmer scored late to secure the victory.

  • Huber Heights Wayne vs.  Middletown

Another upset as the #8 seed shut out the #1 seed.  Braxton Miller didn’t have a huge statistical night, but did have a rushing and passing TD.  Wayne played a huge game defensively against 2013 Standout Jalin Marshall; you should see his name start popping up more and more in the coming months. I’m looking forward a big matchup next week as Wayne meets Michael Bennett and Centerville’s Elks.

  • Centerville vs. Cincy Moeller
  • Cincinnati Colerain vs. Hamilton
  • Pickerington Central vs. Troy

Division II

2010 High School Playoffs: Week 2
Chris Carter in his Last Game, Looks College Ready

  • John F Kennedy vs. Olmsted Falls
  • Trotwood vs. Harrison

Bam Bradley had an 81 yd td reception, along with a good defensive performance.

  • Warren Howland vs. Copley
  • Kent Roosevelt vs. Tallmadge

Division III

  • ASVSM vs. Hubbard

Doran Grant finished with four catches for 132 yards. He also scored on first-half touchdown receptions of 61 and 16 yards, and a total of 3 TDs

  • Columbus Desales vs. Columbus Bishop Watterson

Ball’s season comes to a disappointing end.  Here is to a healthy off-season and back to his form next year, as the nagging injury bug had him all year.

  • Columbus Eastmoor vs. Tiffin Columbian

Another future Buckeye Ronald Tanner ended his high school career with 61 yards on 12 rushes  and 2 TD performance.   He also had an INT as Eastmoor lost on a field goal with 9 seconds left

  • Akron Buchtel vs. Poland Seminary

Corey Smith helped Buchtel to the victory with four receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown

  • Alliance Marlington vs. Minerva

Division IV

  • Cincinnati Taft  vs. Clarksville Clinton-Massie
