This, though, shouldn’t come as any kind of a surprise. Peyton Manning is great, but he’s not so great that he can do it nearly alone. Nobody wants to hear it, but they’re going to hear it: No Addai. No Collie. No Mike Hart. No Dallas Clark. No Anthony Gonzalez. No Blair White.
No Pierre Garcon.
Oh, wait, sorry . . . Garcon did play.
He did, didn’t he?
RUN DEFENSE: GRADE A-plus
Don’t let the Bengals’ numbers fool you. Take out Brian Leonard’s 42-yard run on a fake punt, and the Bengals gained 30 yards on 19 carries. I’m no math whiz, but that computes to, um, not much. Maybe you’ve noticed a trend: When the Colts get gashed by the run, as they were by Houston, Jacksonville and Philadelphia, they get beaten. When they hold they’re their own, they’re perfect. Very quietly, Fili Moala has had a nice season, and both Daniel Muir and Eric Foster were productive in the middle of the line. Good to see Mookie Johnson back, too, mostly because I just love typing “Mookie.”
