Why Indy is in trouble

An FO piece on insider

At Football Outsiders, we use a metric called Adjusted Line Yards to measure a team’s ability to make consistent gains. Through Week 6, the Colts had an ALY of 4.14, ranking 16th in the league. Since their Week 7 bye, though, their ALY is 3.10, worst in football. It doesn’t help that Joseph Addai hasn’t played since Week 6 — backups Donald Brown, Javarris James and Mike Hart are a huge dropoff. But it also shows how bad the Colts’ blocking has been. Jamey Richard and Mike Pollak opened the season at guard, but they’ve been benched for former Arena Football player Kyle DeVan and undrafted rookie Jeff Linkenbach. Pollak returned to the lineup against the Cowboys. The result: 15 running back carries, none going for more than 5 yards.
