One of Manning’s underrated qualities is his toughness. No, he doesn’t get hit quite as often as most quarterbacks, but he takes his shots, and he hurts just like everybody else. The difference is, he doesn’t dwell on those injuries. In fact, in a league where some quarterbacking divas hold a news conference for every hangnail (cough, Ben Roethlisberger, cough), Manning refuses to address any subject tangentially related to injuries.
In 2001, his jaw was broken by Miami’s Lorenzo Bromell and he had to suck meals through a straw for weeks, but he continued to play.
