In the second quarter, Jacksonville’s Mike Thomas returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown after seemingly making a half-hearted attempt at signaling for a fair catch. He waved his left hand to the side.
“That’s how I track the ball,” Thomas said. “Y’all know what my fair catch looks like. That wasn’t my fair catch.”
The crowd didn’t buy that explanation, and Colts coach Jim Caldwell believed Thomas signaled for a fair catch as well.
