Hartley Named Big East Rookie of the Week For Third Time; Hayes Honored

If winning the Big East Rookie of the Week award for a third time is any indication of the future, UConn Huskies freshman point guard Bria Hartley could well be on her way to the Big East Rookie of the Year Award.

Bria Hartley got the fastbreak started for the Huskies, dishing out five assists during the 2010 Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden Sunday afternoon. Hartley also scored 13 points in an 81-50 victory as UConn tied the Division I record set by John Wooden's UCLA men in 1974 with its 88th consecutive victory. For the third time this season, Hartley has been honored for her play and named the Big East Rookie of the Week. Hartley was honored before for the week ending 11/21 and the week ending 11/28.

Hartley had 13 points, three rebounds and five assists in UConn’s streak-tying 88th straight win yesterday over The Ohio State Buckeyes in the Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden.

Tiffany Hayes was also named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll for her play in Sunday’s game.

Hayes had a game-high 26 points, including 17 in the first half, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The UConn women are back in action on Tuesday night when they’ll go for No. 89 in a row against the Florida State Seminoles at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
