Run to pass

As the run game improves, Peyton becomes deadly

The offensive line. The starting unit has crystallized, even with Johnson playing through foot, chest, groin and back injuries. Cohesion has led to better execution.

“We know the same group we’re going in with each week now with (Mike) Pollak and (Kyle) DeVan at the guards,” center Jeff Saturday said. “That always helps.”

Healthy backs. Joseph Addai missed eight games with nerve damage in his left shoulder but returned at Oakland. He ran hard, decisively, with his patented crisp cuts and acceleration. Donald Brown appears sound after dealing with ankle and hamstring issues.

The addition of Dominic Rhodes and his infectious energy has given Manning three trusty options in the running game. Rhodes wore down the Raiders with 98 yards on 17 carries.
