Long drives the rule

But the offense keeps scoring

Going 86 yards in 16 plays to kick a 24-yard field goal might seem like a waste of a lot of good work, unless it comes in a tight, stubbornly contested 19-9 victory, as was the case when Kansas City visited Oct. 10.

Sixteen plays for 85 yards didn’t yield the winning touchdown at Philadelphia, but it gave the Colts a chance with 1:50 to play during a 26-24 loss.

Drives of 10-plus plays defy the odds. The design of the Colts defense and many like it is a bet against an opponent being able to string that many plays.
