Diem ranks amongst our bottom ten offensive tackles on the season, averaging more than three combined pressures allowed per game in 2010. In addition, like most struggling tackles, he also concedes plenty of penalties, topping double digits for the season. Diem has had just a single game this season where he has avoided giving up any pressure (Week 16 against Oakland), but his five sacks given up this year don’t rank amongst the 25 worst figures allowed by offensive tackles, thanks to Manning.
Diem has been equally as poor in run blocking as he has been in pass protection, again ranking in the bottom five in terms of PFF grade. Too frequently does the defender Diem is assigned to block beat him to stop the run before it can gain significant yardage, and the Colts have a hard enough time running the ball at the best of times.
He has had good games this year. Four times he had a solidly positive PFF grade, and one of those games, against the New York Giants, was against a legitimate defensive front. The problem for Diem is that when he has a poor game, it is very poor, with five games earning a PFF grade of -4.0 or worse, and one more at -3.9.
