Far as they could go

I disagree. I think they could have and should have won one more game. It’s a quibble.  We basically agree. Though, he’s still way wrong about San Diego in 08.

There have been other first-game playoff losses in Colts history. Most of them have been unthinkable, unimaginable, home losses to Pittsburgh and San Diego and then again in San Diego. Those were inexplicable and painful, ending seasons when the Colts had every reason to believe they were good enough to win a Super Bowl.

This wasn’t one of those losses. All week, people talked about the Colts being some kind of dangerous team, lurking in the weeds. But they were too focused on pedigree and reputation instead of seeing what was before their eyes. Because by season’s end, that was a shell of a team, holding on for dear life, operating on fumes.

In the big picture, this isn’t the end of anything — except the 2010 season. The Colts will come back next year with their nucleus intact, with young players dotting the roster, with a lot of backups who grew up immensely throughout the season. And they will be a Super Bowl contender again, next year and beyond.
