Visualize the Draft

In honor of the combine, 18to88 reader Eliah McCalla has compiled a nifty tool to look back at the recent draft history of the Colts.

This spreadsheet contains a variety of graphs and charts breaking down how the Colts have drafted by position, conference, unit, ect.

For example, check out this look at what conference and class the Colts typically chose from (click to enlarge):

In the top chart, blue is BCS schools. In the second one, blue means senior.

Um, do you think the Colts like seniors from BCS schools much? 

Yeah…sticks out like a sore thumb, huh.

Here are some of the other highlights from the observations section:

• From pick 46 to 107: 18 defense, 2 offense

• In rounds 2 and 3, Indy drafted 3 offense players vs. 17 defense

• In 8 of 9 years, Indy drafted a cornerback

• In 7 of 9 years, drafted more defense than offense

• CB and OLB have each been drafted at least 10 times. No other position has been taken more than 5 times

• 10 of 16 offensive skill players taken in the 1st and 6th rounds

• Of 16 total picks, 13 LBs and CBs taken between picks 60 and 110

• 11 of 13 OL taken 122nd or later
