Ex-Spur Oberto cleared to play for Argentina

After retiring from the NBA due to heart-related concerns, former San Antonio Spurs center Fabricio Oberto has been medically cleared to play for the Argentinian national team next month at the pre-Olympic qualifier in Argentina:

“It is time to say that according to the results of many tests, I have been cleared and I am able to resume practicing safely,” Oberto said.

“From now I am available to the national team if they want me to train and reach peak physical condition ahead of the tournament.”

This is fantastic to hear. Spurs fans still have a fondness for Oberto and his grit and toughness he displayed during the Spurs’ march to the 2007 NBA title.

Oberto will join Manu Ginobili as part of the preliminary squad to represent Argentina in Mar del Plata next month.
