According to lacapital.com.ar, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will attend the pre-Olympic qualifier in Mar del Plata, Argentina next month:
The coach of the San Antonio Spurs, Gregg Popovich, will be next month in the city of Mar del Plata to see the pre-Olympic basketball qualifier for the Olympic Games in 2012.
The announcement was made tonight by Matthias Sejem, executive director of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, Personal Best program, broadcast by Radio La Red de Santa Fe.
If the report is true, will he get fined for attending the tournament where Manu Ginobili, let alone other NBA players, will be playing with the NBA lockout in full swing?
The rule is there should be no contact between the players and coaching staff during this lockout. Any violation would result in a hefty fine – $1 million to be exact.
So unless Pop avoids Manu at all costs or he gets special permission as Miami Heat’s Erik Spoelstra and Pat Riley received to attend Chris Bosh’s wedding, if I am Pop, stay away from Manu!
However, does the no-contact rule extend beyond the boarders of the United States?
