Aside from Miami’s LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant might arguably be the most popular NBA player in the world today. Being one of the games two biggest stars, Bryant garners a lot of attention. When the Los Angeles Lakers were swept by the eventual NBA champions, Dallas Mavericks, head coach Phil Jackson said he was done, for now.
The Lakers went on to hire former San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Mike Brown. At first the move may have not been too thrilling for Bryant as he chose not to comment on the decision by Lakers’ management.
On Sunday though, Bryant finally made his first public comments about the hiring of Brown.
“We’ve talked. We’ve met, we’ve talked several times, met several times. We have been in dialogue there has been an open dialogue.”
“He just seems like the type of coach that buttons everything up, so I think as players we’ll all be happy.”
Brown is a good coach as he was tenured for a short time under Gregg Popovich and even led a LeBron James Cleveland team to the 2007 NBA Finals where they were swept by the Spurs. He’s a defensive minded coach and that he’ll have a slew of pieces to use with this team from Bryant, to Lamar Odom and the two seven footers, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol.
For the Lakers and every other NBA team, they can only wait as the NBA lockout isn’t looking too promising thus far. Should the season begin in 2011-12, it’ll be interesting to see where Bryant and Brown guide the Lakers in the future.
