Is Chuck Liddell vs Tito Ortiz the UFC’s greatest rivalry? The recent DVD/Blu-ray release UFC Bad Blood: Liddell vs Ortiz claims that it is, and after watching the 150 minutes of footage on the DVD, it is hard to argue with that claim. While Liddell and Ortiz started out as friends and training partners, they famously became bitter rivals and enemies, and even today in retirement Liddell comes across in the documentary as still wanting to get his hands on Ortiz.
The two epic Liddell vs Ortiz fights (UFC 47 and UFC 66) are shown in full on the DVD, but it is the documentary of their rivalry that makes up the heart of this release. Ortiz, Liddell, Dana White and Liddell’s trainer, John Hackleman all voice their opinions on Ortiz and Liddell’s battles against one another. But this comes with a caveat – you can’t trust anything Tito Ortiz says in the documentary because, well, he’s Tito Ortiz. The same goes with Dana White, who doesn’t hide the fact that he is heavily biased and in Liddell’s corner. And as for Chuck Liddell, you can’t trust anything he says because you can’t understand anything that he says, as he seems to have taken one too many knockout blows to the noggin.
All that being said, this is a great release and must-have for UFC fans.
