San Antonio Spurs great and now Spurs minority owner David Robinson hasn’t played basketball in over eight years and he still is racking up awards for his play during his career.
This latest award comes from the NCAA for “The Admiral’s” work while playing at the Naval Academy. Robinson, along with current ESPN analyst Doris Burke, Raiders great Tim Brown, Suns legend and current Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson, Sean Payton and Amy Perko are all being honored with the NCAA Silver Anniversary award. According to NavySports.com, the award is giving to six former student athletes on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their college athletics careers.
In case you didn’t know, Robinson’s collegiate career came with as much acclaim as his pro career. He led the NCAA in blocks twice and rebounds once. Robinson also still holds the NCAA record for double-doubles in a season with the 31. He was also the first player in NCAA history to score 2,500 points, grab 1,300 rebounds (1,314) and shoot better than 60 percent from the field (.613) throughout his career.
So yes, Robinson was pretty incredible in college. We weren’t sure if you remembered. Congrats, Mr. Robinson!
