I’ve never been angry at San Antonio Spurs owner Peter Holt throughout this lockout. Business is business and his team lost some money the last couple of seasons so he’s trying to do what’s best for his business. While I can partially blame him his business losing money, I certainly can’t be angry about these things.
But this I can be angry about. Turns out Peter Holt and Chris Paul may have gotten in to a bit of a dust up during a negotiating session last month. CBS Sports’ Royce Young, quoting a New York Post story, reports CP3 didn’t take too kindly to what perceived as a threat from Petey.
“According to a person involved in the process, the owners have played it wrong in challenging the players — unless it is their intent not to have a deal. Which it may be. Last month, during the first federal mediation, Chris Paul got overheated when San Antonio owner Peter Holt said of their revenue-split 50-50 offer, ‘Take it or leave it.’ Paul shouted back several times: ‘Take it or leave it?’ The union left it.”
Listen here Petey, you just crushed one young writer’s dream. You pissed off the league’s best point guard who’s entering free agency next summer when you’re guaranteed to have some cap space to go after him. But that was a long shot, a pipe dream. Here’s what isn’t. Paul obviously is fiery guy and probably doesn’t forget stuff like this. So next season when the Spurs and Hornets play each other in the regular season and maybe the playoffs, I envision Paul dropping a triple-double on the Spurs then doing the DX crotch chop in Holt’s general direction, hits with a steel chair and then walks off the court in victory.
Anyways, here’s hoping the lockout gets solved today. Thanks for ruining my lunch, Peter!
