Spurs bring back Novak

The San Antonio Spurs announced they have re-signed forward Steve Novak. The team did not Spurs bring back Novakdisclose details of the contract.

Last season with San Antonio he averaged 4 points, 1 rebound, shot 52% from the field, 54% from the three-point line in 8.6 minutes.

The 6-10 Novak is known primarily for his shooting touch from long-distance and though his ability to spread the floor will help the Spurs, this is still not the type of big man the team needs. Novak isn’t known for defense or rebounding and the Spurs desperately need that kind of help below the rim.

Currently, Tim Duncan, Tiago Splitter, DeJuan Blair, Matt Bonner and Antonio McDyess (for now) man the paint. Aside from Duncan and Splitter, Blair and McDyess are undersized and Bonner isn’t known to be a banger inside nor capable of defending the post.

Novak will help but the Spurs still need to find better interior presence. Something the Memphis Grizzlies exposed last season in the playoffs.
