The Urban Assault continues in the battle for the best recruits across the nation. While little brothers Illinois and Penn State believe they can join in on the hotbed race for Ohio prospects, Mark Dantonio and Urban Meyer continue to prove who the sheriffs are in The Heart of it All. Okay, Dantonio is really just the rogue cowboy picking up the wild strays of the state. Maybe Beckman and O’Brien will join his clan. Buckeye fans, don’t feel bad for three goons when they go home empty handed.
It’s better to go home with an empty cupboard, instead of grabbing for the day’s 33rd donut.
Brady Hoke can only dream about the state of Ohio. Daily, in his office, he slobbers all over his polo, dreaming about the great city of Athens. He wonders why the Bobcats wore scarlet jerseys when they came to Ann Arbor at the end of the season. He laughs like a madmen at the fact that the Michigan Spartans have to take on the new guy in the conference that everyone is talking about.
It is that guy that remains busy in the state of Ohio. Here’s a look at some of the latest news from the recruiting trail.
Without a doubt, new offensive line coach Ed Warriner has had an instant impact on recruiting. The former Kansas Offensive Coordinator and Notre Dame OL coach has had a knack for recruiting and it seems safe to say that Urban and his staff have gave his targets some love.
In our great state, Luke Fickell and Urban Meyer have changed the landscape for Toledo Central corner Jayme Thompson. The class of 2013 product was ready to make a commitment this month, with offers from West Virginia, Nebraska, and Cincinnati. After a visit from Luke Fickell, the door has opened for Ohio State to swoop in and make a move. Though many believe he is better accustomed to free safety, Thompson has aspirations at playing at the DB position. Ranked in the top 20 of Ohio prospects for this class, It will be interesting to see how much of an impact the coaching staff has had in such short time. He was all but locked to go to West Virginia. Now, he is very positive about an opportunity to play at home. Warriner, who was recruiting him at Notre Dame and about to offer a scholarship, might have had a huge impact on the development of interest on both sides.

Now to the sunshine state, where Urban Meyer is yet again at work at the running back position. 2013 prospect Ryan Green had considered Notre Dame his top destination to play at the next level, but that was before Tim Hinton made the transition to Ohio State. Green already has offers from Florida, FSU, Purdue, Notre Dame, USF, and Miami. Named the best back at the 2012 Under Armor Combine for juniors, Green has 4.45 speed and a 33.5 inch vertical. Of course, Green fits the Urban Build. Quick seperation speed, the size to play receiver, and great out of the slot. His 5’10” 195 pound frame makes him very versatile, as he can hit the hole, cutback, hit the edge, and wait for seems. It’s way to early to say where Ohio State lands on Green’s radar, but he brings an elusive skill set that Meyer and his staff will key on in the upcoming classes. As a junior he ran for 1500 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Meyer has also shown interest in ’13 Receiver Laquan Tredwell out of Illinois. It doesn’t get better than 75 catches for 1,400 yards an unbelievable 18 touchdowns. He has NFL like size, solid speed and is already being coveted across the country. Indiana, Michigan, Notre Dame and Nebraska already have placed offers on the table. Newly hired Zach Smith has played a key role in the recent recruiting of the 6’3″ 183 lb product. He visited Tredwell’s school recently. The new ‘spread offense’ installed by Meyer and co. could be a huge pull for the top receiver in the class in the midwest.
