Let’s not forget that even in this shortened season the NBA is still going to play an All-Star game. While I’m sure a few of the All-Stars would rather take the break than head down to Orlando to play in the game, at least they get to rock some pretty cool jerseys.
I may be a little biased because I’ve always been a fan of the Orlando Magic jerseys, and that seems to be the inspiration for the All-Star uniforms, but I like them a lot. I usually am a pretty big fan of All-Star apparel, I like the futuristic look. Except there was this one time.
Anyone remember the All-Star uniforms in 1996? I sure do. That was the year San Antonio hosted the big game, and every thing about the jerseys just screamed “Yee-Haw!” That one was a little embarrassing.
Anyways, who is going to get to wear these flashy jerseys in Orlando? It looks like there may not be any San Antonio Spurs.
The starters for the All-Star game have been announced:
EASTERN CONFERENCE
- (F) Carmelo Anthony (Knicks)
- (F) LeBron James (Heat)
- (C) Dwight Howard (Magic)
- (G) Derrick Rose (Bulls)
- (G) Dwyane Wade (Heat)
WESTERN CONFERENCE
- (F) Blake Griffin (Clippers)
- (F) Kevin Durant (Thunder)
- (C) Andrew Bynum (Lakers)
- (G) Chris Paul (Clippers)
- (G) Kobe Bryant (Lakers)
I suppose Spurs fans can still hope for Tony Parker to be named a reserve, but that’s probably going to be their only hope. But expect Gary Neal, Tiago Splitter, and Kawhi Leonard to participate in the Rookie-Sophomore Challenge.
So I guess it’s time to start getting pumped for the All-Star game! Really, I’m just hoping we see a dunk contest between Blake Griffin (though he is not going to defend his crown), Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan, who’s with me?
