While many expected the San Antonio Spurs to be strong suitors for the services of Derek Fisher after he recently agreed to a buyout deal with the Houston Rockets, apparently the Spurs are set on Patty Mills.
According to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Spurs are just waiting on a work visa in order to sign Mills.
“San Antonio still waiting on government work visa to sign Patty Mills, sources tell Y! Sports. Spurs have no plans to talk to Derek Fisher,” Wojnarowski said via his Twitter page.
While Fisher has far more experience to go with five rings, Mills seems to be the Spurs’ man, and they are likely just days away to signing, signaled by Cory Joseph being sent back down to the Austin Toros.
While it i still unclear what role Mills would play with the Spurs, some San Antonio media say Mills will not serve as Tony Parker’s primary backup, but instead play spot minutes behind Gary Neal.
Be sure to check back for more on Mills’ and his progress in joining the Spurs.
