Diaw and Spurs reach agreement

Boris DiawThe San Antonio Spurs have found some big man help for the stretch run.  Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports was the first to report the Spurs have reached an agreement with recently waived big man Boris Diaw.

“Diaw agreed to a buyout with the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday, and cleared waivers Friday afternoon. The Spurs will sign Diaw for the remainder of the season.”

UPDATE: The Spurs officially announced they signed Diaw for the rest of the season.

Not all of this is incredibly surprising.  Diaw to the Spurs had been rumored for weeks.  The only question that remained was whether they’d sign him just for this season or do a two year deal like Patty Mills’ contract is reported to be.

Diaw’s signing couldn’t come at a better time as the Spurs are about to play five games in six nights.  The Spurs also tweeted that Tiago Splitter is doubtful for tonight’s game against the Mavs with back spasms, though Matt Bonner will return from his one game absence from the same injury. There’s no word on when Diaw will be inserted in to the lineup.

In the last week the Spurs have traded for Stephen Jackson and come to agreements with Mills and Diaw, making this the biggest change the Spurs have made to their roster mid-season.
