Corey Robinson Notre Dame-bound

It seems like just yesterday we watched San Antonio Spurs great David Robinson interact with his kids in Oreo cookies commercial where he complimented a very young Corey Robinson on his cookie dunking abilities.

Robinson now compliments Corey on touchdown catches as a junior at San Antonio Christian High School, and Robinson will more than likely be making a few trips to South Bend, Indiana not too far down the road.

According to a report from the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Corey committed to attend and play for Notre Dame as part of the 2013 Irish recruiting class.

Robinson, who is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, is the ninth player to commit to Notre Dame and the sixth pledge since Saturday. He is also the second receiver to join the Irish’s Class of 2013, joining Minnesota’s James Onwualu.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Robinson is the son of former San Antonio Spurs center David Robinson. He caught 42 passes for 660 yards with 10 touchdowns last season for San Antonio Christian.

Corey also had scholarship offers from Iowa, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Kansas and Navy, where his father was an All-American.

“There was something about (this past weekend’s visit). I can’t explain it,” Robinson told Rivals.com. “Me and my dad and my mom, we were just praying about it. We just felt that the Lord gave us a lot of peace when we went on that campus, peace about Notre Dame … I did not see a reason to wait if I had that peace about it.”

While Corey is excelling on the gridiron as opposed to the hardwood, the apple clearly didn’t fall far from the tree in this case.
