Battier says he’s not paying attention to Spurs in playoffs

Once the NBA lockout ended, one player the San Antonio Spurs were rumored to be interested in was SBShane Battier. Battier was also being recruited by other title worthy teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat, and Boston Celtics. Battier eventually chose the Heat and today, according to Ethan Skolnick of the Palm Beach Post, Battier isn’t giving any attention to the two teams out West.

Shane Battier was recruited by the Spurs and Thunder last offseason, with the Spurs envisioning him as a “stretch four,” which is the position he’s playing with Chris Bosh out.

That doesn’t mean he’s watching their series.

“I haven’t watched San Antonio, other than one time we played them,” Battier said.

Though Battier and the Spurs only faced each other once this season, you get the idea he might be watching more of the Spurs if San Antonio defeats the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, and the Heat defeat the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

And should the Spurs and Heat battle in the NBA Finals and the Spurs win their fifth championship, Battier might be the one to have the most regret as he had the chance to play with San Antonio, but chose not to.

Either way, there’s a still a long way for the Spurs and Heat to go, as they’re both 2-1 in their series against the Thunder and Celtics. Their main focus will be working to win two more games against those two teams.
