While San Antonio Spurs’ Patty Mills still isn’t sure where he’ll play next season, he returned to the basketball court today and led the Australian National team to its first pre-Olympic victory.
According to TheWest.Com.Au, Mills led the Boomers to an 87-60 victory by scoring 21 points and knocking down 5-of-7 three-pointers. Spurs fans know Mills can light up the scoreboard in a hurry after seeing him put up some big numbers at the end of the Spurs’ regular season.
Boomers head coach/Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown had this to say of Australia’s first victory:
“All in all I was happy with what I saw,” Brown said, “At this early stage, the pieces to our offence far exceeded expectations, though the defence was personally a little bit of a let-down.”
As of today, Mills is still under contract with the Spurs, but he has the option to opt out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent tomorrow. Mills said he’s leaning toward opting out, but after I listened to a radio interview with Mills, he said he’s still torn between opting out and staying in San Antonio.
After tomorrow, we’ll know if Mills is still a Spur, or available on the free agent market.
