Bits and pieces of the San Antonio Spurs' preseason schedule had been leaking out for days, mostly through other teams' schedules getting leaked out. Today the NBA released the full preseason schedule for all 30 teams.
While the Spurs won't be doing any international travel this fall, their preseason will have a little bit of Italian flavor as they welcome Montepaschi Siena to town for the first game of the year on Saturday, October 6th. There's not much you need to know about this game other than it might be the only time you ever get to see Spurs 2005 second round pick Viktor Sanikidze.
Don't have Sanikidze-sanity? No worries, the Spurs' preseason if filled with games that could be pretty interesting for a variety of reasons. Hawk-sanity or Ferry-sanity, whichever you want to call it, hits the AT&T Center on Wednesday, October 10th. Will we see more ball movement from the Hawks now that "Iso" Joe Johnson has moved on. Will Danny Ferry swing a trade with R.C. Buford at the game. There's only one way to find out, Spurs fans.
There are so many "sanities" for this next game. The Denver Nuggets bring JaVale-sanity, Iggy-sanity and MOSGOV-SANITY town on Friday, October 12th. Two days later they get their first look at Linsanity and the Rockets' 57 (approximately) undersized power forwards. That game is October 14th in Houston.
The Spurs then travel to Miami Heat and Joel Anthony-sanity (that one doesn't have a good ring to it) on Saturday, October 20th. The should've been Finals rematch will also be the Spurs' first look at the Heat's new toys, Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis. The Spurs then play a PRESEASON BACK TO WHAT THE HELL IS THIS BACK against the Magic in Orlando. There's no way Gregg Popovich plays any starters or players over the age of 30 here (except Matt Bonner), so the Magic and former Spurs assistant coach Jacque Vaughn stand a chance. Seriously though, a preseason back to back? We're calling this one Jacque-sanity by the way.
The Spurs finish their preseason on Friday, October 26th at home against John Wall-sanity and the Washington Wizards. This will either be some guys' last chance at making the team or the first chance we get at seeing what the Spurs' early season rotation will look like. The listed schedule from Spurs.com is below.
