In writing a book on the modern gladiators of mixed martial arts, you could do a lot worse than feature Georges St-Pierre, BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua, and Fedor Emelianenko.  So veteran MMA journalist Brian J. D'Souza definitely started off on the right track following these five legends' careers in his latest release, Pound for Pound: The Modern Gladiators of Mixed Martial Arts.

Even if you are well versed in MMA (like I am), you'll learn plenty when reading Pound for Pound.  D'Souza imbeds himself in the fighters' camps to get the inside scoop on their careers and how they evolved from beginners to legends.  Each fighter gets a substantial write-up in the book, with my favourite sections definitely being on Shogun and Fedor and the nonsense that went on behind the scenes in the now-defunct Pride Fighting Championships (Pride never die).

Well-written and well-researched, Pound for Pound will be an informative and entertaining read for any fight fan.
