With just over a week left until the start of the regular season, former Seattle Seahawks first-round pick, Aaron Curry, announced his retirement from the NFL.
Curry, whose career was on a steady down swing after being drafted by the Seahawks in 2009, made his decision known to the world via Twitter, saying the decision was the best one for himself and his family. After he played a little over 30 games for Seattle, he got traded to the Oakland Raiders and then to the New York Giants. Curry found himself cut as the Giants narrowed down their roster earlier in the week.
When he was drafted in 2009, Curry was believed to be a solid pick that could make an immediate impact in the league. Now, at age 27, his last act in the league was losing his spot on the Giants’ second-team defense. In 48 total games, Curry only managed just over two hundred tackles and just over five sacks.
Curry gave no details about his decision to retire but the fact that his numbers had been on the decline and a recent knee injury surely contributed to the decision. No word has been given on what Curry intends to do now that he is retired.
