With the Minnesota Vikings NFC matchup on the road in just three days, the Cleveland Browns look for the upset in the aftermath of trading away their best offensive weapon. The Vikings defense is horrendous and despite having the ghost of Trent Richardson, the Browns can win this contest. Here are three important keys to the win column on Sunday.
Dawg Bone #1
Take shots at Vikes Secondary
The Vikings have given up 65 points in two games! Brian Hoyer must expose the Vikings weak secondary. Chris Cook and Josh Robinson are their versions of Buster Skrine and Chris Owens. They can be picked apart if the game plan is correct. And, if the game plan is effective, stick to it! Hoyer’s ability to get out of the pocket will help the passing game. Let’s see this high powered vertical passing game that the Browns have pitched all year to their shaken fan base.
Dawg Bone #2
Pressure, Pressure, and more Pressure
Pressure forces mistakes and mistakes force turnovers. Turnovers create points. And, that’s what the Cleveland defense must do. If the Browns are unable to put something together, this is game that the defensive can win for them. Christian Ponder is a mediocre QB that when flustered, can make costly errors. The Browns defense must create points from his errors. The Vikings offensive line has a great left tackle and that’s it. QB pressures, hurries, and knock downs are keys to winning this contest. Someone must step up and make that momentum turning play on defense.
Dawg Bone #3
Avoid Second half flatness
Last week against the reigning world champion Ravens, the Browns shut them out in the first half. Then, the second half came and the Browns were flat altogether. Coming out flat in a winnable game is unacceptable. If the Browns play their game for four quarters, Minnesota is beatable.
