English Premier League : Aaron Ramsey Fires Arsenal Past Swansea, Top Of Table

Aaron Ramsey continued his inspired form in a 2-1 victory over Swansea in Arsene Wenger’s 17th anniversary as Arsenal head coach.

The in-form Ramsey assisted Serge Gnabry for his first league goal in the 58th minute. Four minutes later, Ramsey scored his 8th goal of the season to continue his best run of his career and seal Arsenal’s 12th consecutive road victory.

Swansea gave the Gunners all they could handle but could only manage one goal from Ben Davies. Since Arsenal’s opening day loss to Aston Villa they have not lost a game.

Ramsey’s mix of speed and creativeness was a key in this excellent run of form and these attributes also lead the Gunners to a win in Wales.  The first half had lots of pleasing passing in the midfield but little action around the goal.

Jonjo Shelvey launched a shot just over the bar for the first true effort in the first half.  Arsenal then started to gain control over the match. Ramsey placed a nice a cross that connected with Per Mertesacker to head the ball just wide. Ramsey again was apart of a goal scoring opportunity when he placed a curving shot just wide of the post.

Gnarby started to add a spark to the attack. He squeezed his way between a couple of defenders then hit a low cross to Oliver Giroud who should have put the Gunners ahead in stoppage time before the half.  Gnarby finally gave the Gunners the lead from a great run of play that Ramsey was the star of.

Jack Wilshere played a ball to Giroud right above the box, which he back-healed to Ramsey. Ramsey played a ball into the on running Gnarby who played the ball neatly around Michel Vorm into the Swansea net.  Moments later, Mesut Ozil should have put the Gunners up by two. On a counter attack Ramsey drove into the heart of the Swansea defense and played a smart ball to Ozil. Vorm did well to push Ozil’s shot wide.

Another Arsenal counterattack lead to another goal this time for Ramsey. Wishere and Giroud combined to find Ramsey who adjusted his body well and fired into the back of the net.  Swansea did pull one back when Wilfred Bony and Davis combined to pull one back when Davis nicked the ball past Wolciech Szczesny.

The Gunners survived as Swansea threw players foreword trying to find the equalizing goal. With four of Arsenal’s top rivals in the form of Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and United all dropping points, the Gunners capitalized and gained all three to vault to the top of the table.
