Pac-12 Replay Officials Make Another Mistake This Time Costing Washington

The Pac-12 conference has had its fair share of controversy when it comes to the replay booth. One of the most famous mistakes came in 2006 when the Oregon Ducks were given an onside kick recovery even though the Oklahoma Sooners had actually recovered the football.

Earlier in the 2013 season the Pac-12 admonished an officiating crew for its mistake in a game which the Wisconsin Badgers got robbed of an opportunity to stop the clock and go for the win against the Arizona State Sun Devils. Tonight the replay officials are in trouble again and this time it robbed the Washington Huskies of a chance to upset the Stanford Cardinal.

Late in the game and on a fourth down play Keith Price escaped pressure and made a tremendous play to get the ball to a receiver or so it looked like. Before the Huskies ran another play it went to review. ESPN showed both angles and neither conclusively showed that the football had hit the ground, so the call should have stood right? That answer is no. The Cardinal got the ball back on a turnover on downs as the replay officials ruled the ball hit the ground.

At this point it’s a wonder how that conclusion got made? There wasn’t anything that viewers saw that showed with 100 percent clarity that the ball had actually hit the ground. Here’s a look at some of the Tweets reacting to the incomplete pass.

Like the crew from the Wisconsin and Arizona State game, the replay officials from tonight’s game need to get disciplined harshly by the Pac-12.
