2013 NFL Free Agency : Vikings Land QB Josh Freeman, Why He’s A Good Fit in Minnesota

.

With the Minnesota Vikings signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman to a one-year deal, this may be a win-win for both parties.

In Tampa, Freeman wasn’t a great quarterback, however at the age of just 25, still has a lot of upside at a very serviceable price.  Per Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, the former Kansas State Wildcat has always wanted to play in Minnesota, now that he’s at a place where he wants to be, perhaps he’ll do very well.

Freeman has a rifle of an arm, decent speed and has the luxury of handing off too Adrian Peterson and throwing to the likes of Greg Jennings, Cordarrelle Patterson and Jerome Simpson off of play-action, as teams will be forced to honor the run and stack the box against AP.

What Freeman also brings is decent mobility with opportunities to make plays with his legs. What the Freeman pickup also means is that former first-round pick, quarterback Christian Ponder is most likely on his way to IR or he’s gone after this year.

This move clearly shows that the coaching staff has enough doubts in Matt Cassel that they decided to bring Freeman in.

Freeman starts off his Vikings career with a familiar opponent in the Carolina Panthers, hopefully with a new start against an old foe, Freeman will show the Minnesota brass that bringing him in was both wise and shrewd.
