Second best thing about last night’s molestation was Recchi’s post game comments, claiming his quotes about Montreal organization “embellished” the Pacioretty injury reports were to take heat off Chara.
Well obviously, yea. I mean when there’s an injury that — he obviously has a fractured vertebrae but the concussion was obviously really a non-factor, maybe a day or two. Maybe a day or two he felt it and then he was fine a couple of days later. I believe, yea, [Montreal] was trying to get Zdeno suspended and they embellished it a little bit and you know they’re trying to do what they could to get him suspended and I think the league sent a message that it was a hockey play and that’s the important thing.
Habs fans, media and players started cracking “He’s old and senile” jokes instantly. Y’know, original stuff.
Ended up the joke was on Montreal.
From The Boston Globe:
“Well, I have to be honest with you guys, I wanted to take the heat off Zee for a day,” Recchi told reporters afterward. “I’m a big boy. And I think anyone who knows me, knows that I have great respect for the Montreal organization. I played five years there. I have great respect for Doctor [David] Mulder, the medical staff there.
“I had five great years there,” Recchi said of his time in Montreal. “I took the pressure off Zee. In 22 years, I’ve respected all my teammates, all the players I play against. My record has shown that. For 22 years. I just took the pressure off Zee for one day, I’m a big boy, I can handle that.”
Respect your elders. Veteran move by a leader in the locker room.
Joe Haggerty predicted Recchi’s motive pretty much right after the radio interview happened. Everyone else had their heads too far up their ass to look behind the veil. Love it.
Recchi is clearly the Cerebral Assassin.
Coming as no surprise, Montreal fans didn’t enjoy Recchi’s gamesmanship. Clearly an act of a goon and thug.
What they do like is polite conversations over a cup of tea, puff ties, whining and roasting marshmellows over open car fires.
They’re just pissed they all got Rickrolled by the old and senile Mark Recchi.
Montreal got Rexrolled.
