With the 2014 NBA trade deadline now come and gone, three teams made moves that helped their post-season chances in Cleveland, Indiana and Golden State.
- Cavs Trade F Earl Clark, C Henry Sims and two 2014 second-round picks To 76ers for C Spencer Hawes : With starting center Anderson Varejao out with a back injury, the suddenly-hot Cleveland cavaliers landing on the NBA’s up-and-coming centers in Spencer Hawes for two second-round picks, forward Earl Clark and backup center Henry Sims. Hawks, 25, averaged 13.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in 53 games for the Sixers—who also dealt Evan Turner to the East-leading Indiana Pacers. Now in Cleveland, Hawes adds to a promising frontcourt that now has two-time NBA All-Star Loul Deng, Tristan Thompson and a backcourt consisting of All-Star Game MVP Kyrie Irving and Jarrett Jack.
- Pacers Trade F Danny Granger to Sixers for SG Evan Turner : In a move designed to add more offense, the East-leading Pacers dealt long-time forward Danny Granger to Philadelphia for former lottery pick Evan Turner. Turner, 25, averaged career highs in points (17.4), assists (3.7) and rebounds (6.0) in 54 games for Philadelphia. Granger a eight-year veteran out of new Mexico, averaged career lows in points (8.3), assists (1.1) and rebounds (3.6), was deemed expandable, thanks to the emergence of Paul George.
- Lakers Trade PG Steve Blake To Golden State For MarShon Brooks and Kent Bazemore : In one of the sleeper moves made before the trade deadline on Wednesday, Golden State bolstered their already-formidable backcourt in landing veteran point guard Steve Blake for the rival Los Angeles Lakers. Blake, 33, averaged 9.5 points, 7.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 27 games for the Lakers. In Golden State, he helps take some of the scoring load off of All-Star point guard Stephen Curry down the stretch.
