Finally the wait is over. 18-time world boxing champion in three weight classes and undefeated Top women’s bantamweight contender, Holly “The Preachers Daughter” Holm (7-0) officially signed with UFC Thursday evening.
This is something that MMA fans around the world waited on pins and needles for a long time, but negotiations stalled a few months back. Hindsight shows it couldn’t be a better time to fight in the women’s bantamweight division in the UFC, because its current champ Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey (10-0) disposed of the 135 division so swiftly there’s barely anyone to challenge until now.
A seasoned veteran, the 32-year-old Holm sports an unbeaten record in part to her elite striking, which goes back to her championship boxing days, as you can see by her angles, and punching prowess. Toughness may be her best attribute, especially after breaking her arm in the “Preachers Daughter” last fight, where she broke her arm early on, but still ended the bout with a vicious head kick followed by strikes in the fifth round.
Looking down the line both Rousey and Holm are sidelined with injuries at the moment. Rousey with a broken hand, and Holm with the broken arm, their paths will cross soon enough for the belt. Fight analysts in the industry highly doubt that, but a high-profile signing in the bantamweight division in need of legit contenders, Holm no doubt is that.
