Pittsburgh 30 Houston 23– Ben Roethlisberger passed for 265 yards and two touchdowns as the Steelers outlasted the Texans. On one surprise play, Antonio Brown passed for a touchdown.
The Steelers gained the advantage at halftime by outscoring the Texans 24-6 in the second quarter. The Steelers lead 24-13 at the end of the half.
The Texans slowed the Pittsburgh offense down by allowing just 6 points. However, Houston only scored 10 points in the 4th quarter.
Indianapolis 27 Cincinnati 0– Andrew Luck showed the NFL why the Colts are still a threat to go to the Super Bowl. Luck passed for 344 yards which was the league’s top total for week 7. He also passed for two touchdowns.
Andy Dalton was ineffective without A.J. Green. He passed for a bleak total of 126 yards. Green is recovering from a toe injury.
Baltimore 29 Atlanta 7– Joe Flacco proved once again that he get things done. Flacco passed for 258 yards and two touchdowns as the Ravens blasted Matt Ryan and the Falcons. Ryan threw for only one touchdown for the third straight game. Injuries to the Falcons offensive line are hindering Ryan’s ability to pass effectively.
Steve Smith critiques NFC South
Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith talked about the difference between the AFC North and the NFC South. “I mean football is a physical game.” We play in the AFC North – a physical division. That’s just football.”
Smith, who caught 3 passes for 67 yards continued “NFC South is a finesse division.”
Jaguars 24 Browns 6– Cleveland lost its way in the gulf heat as Jacksonville Jaguars easily won their first game of the season against the Browns.
After a stunning upset victory last week that renewed the Browns/Steelers rivalry, the electrifying Browns offense lost its shock and awe approach as the offensive line was ineffective for much of the game. Brian Hoyer was not in sync with his receivers as his pass attempts were constantly overthrown, under-thrown and tipped at the line of scrimmage. Hoyer passed for 215 yards.
What looked to be an easy 4-2 start for one of the NFL’s underdogs will now turn into a dismal week leading up to the home against the Oakland Raiders.
AFC North Standings
- Baltimore 5-2
- Cincinnati 3-2-1
- Pittsburgh 4-3
- Cleveland 3-3
