The waiting to find out who will be taking up the mantle of the villainous Apocalypse in Fox’s next X-Men movie, is now at an end.
A report from Variety has revealed that it will be none other than Academy Award Nominee, Oscar Issac. The report also indicated that it’s not just a rumor, but a done deal.
Isaac will be following up his role in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, by taking on the role of the main villain in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Isaac will be joining an impressive cast that includes fellow Academy Award nominees, Michael Fassbender and Hugh Jackman; it will also include a woman who has already earned her own little golden statue, Jennifer Lawrence.
Brian Singer had been meeting with actors a few weeks prior to Isaac’s casting, but it seemed that Isaac was likely the front runner early on in talks.
Apocalypse will be taking place in the 80s which means audiences will likely get to see younger depictions of familiar characters from the more contemporary X-Men movies in the series.
Singer also revealed that “Apocalypse’ will have more of the mass destruction that ‘X-Men’ films, to date, have not relied upon,” because “there’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle.”
Just in case everybody has forgotten or maybe just to be a little sadistic to those who REALLY can’t wait, I wish to remind everyone that Fox will be releasing X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27th 2016.
