Do androids dream of electric sheep? That remains to be seen, but there are Blade Runner fans out there who have been dreaming of a sequel ever since the first rumors started surfacing about such a possibility.
It appears that those dreams are going to become a reality, as filming on the sequel will start sometime next year.
The first question everyone will likely ask is, “will Harrison Ford appear in the sequel as Rick Deckard?” Ridley Scott revealed in an interview for Variety that “Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him; he comes in in the third act.”
Scott collaborated on the script for the sequel with Hampton Fancher, who was his writing partner from the original film. Scott said, “we talked at length about what it could be, and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one.”
When the sequel goes into production, it will be without Scott behind the camera. He will act as producer on the film, but someone else will be sought to take on directing duties.
Anyone looking for a Ridley Scott fix will have the opportunity for one when Exodus: Gods and Kings comes to theaters on Dec. 12th 2014. If that doesn’t quite curb your appetite you’ll have to wait a year for The Martian which is due for release Nov. 26th 2015.
