Oscar season is approaching, and soon studios will be campaigning for The Academy’s consideration for nominations in various categories. With that in mind, Paramount Pictures has decided to submit Transformers: Age of Extinction for consideration in the Best Picture of the Year category.
You may be waiting for the classic roll on snare with a cymbal shot or an Andrew “Dice” Clay style “Oh!” to follow that, but I swear this is not a joke.
ComicBook.com also reports that Paramount is also lobbying for nominations for Michael Bay in the Best Director category and Ehren Kruger for Best Adapted Screenplay. It seems more likely that the movie would be nominated for Visual Effects, Film Editing, Sound Editing, or Sound Mixing instead.
While Age of Extinction was definitely a financial success, bringing in over $1 billion in worldwide box office revenue, it has been widely panned by both the fans and the critics.
Certainly, Paramount isn’t resting solely on their global box office takings as a reason for the rather lofty nominations they’re seeking, that would be as tragic as a fifth Michael Bay-directed Transformers movie.
Nomination announcements are scheduled to be made on January 15th of 2015. 87th Annual Academy awards will be presented The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on February 22nd 2015, and will be hosted by Niel Patrick Harris.
