Entertainment: Could Pirates of The Caribbean Be Going In A New Direction?

2016 Sydney International - Day 4

Could the Pirates of The Caribbean film franchise be getting rebooted?

According to actor Orlando Bloom the series could be going in a new direction. Bloom, who played Will Turner in the first three Pirates films, spoke while promoting the most recent Hobbit film.

“I’m not entirely sure that [I’ll be back] just yet, but there are talks,” he said. “Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son.”

Fans of the films, especially At Worlds End, will remember we caught a glimpse of Will’s son during an end credits scene. Disney did announce Brenton Thwaites (The Giver) was cast for the fifth film, and will likely play Turner’s son. However, that is purely speculation at this point.

What we do know is the newest installment of Pirates will include Johnny Depp, who will reprise his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow. The film has also inked Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem for the role of Captain Brand.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is expected to be released to theaters on July 7, 2017.
