Now that Jabari Parker is out for the season, who is the front-runner for the Rookie Of The Year?
This year’s draft class has been plagued with injury, as we have seen Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, Joel Embiid, Noah Vonleh Marcus Smart, Doug McDermott and now Parker placed on the injured list this season.
Andrew Wiggins has been the only real consistent player from the 2014 draft. His 12.6 points per game aren’t a staggering number, but as of right now he leads all NBA rookies in points per game.
Wiggins also has the support of Kobe Bryant who said the following about Wiggins, “It’s like looking at a reflection of myself 19 years ago.”
Wiggins isn’t the only rookie turning heads this season, as the Philadelphia 76ers boast two candidates in K.J. McDaniels and Nerlens Noel. However, it’s McDaniels that has proved to be the more impressive of the two.
McDaniels only plays 25 minutes per game, and has proven that when given time he can shine. During a stretch of games from November 26th-December 4th, McDaniels accumulated 72 points and grabbed 42 rebounds and is a definite dark horse to win Rookie of The Year.
The name to keep an eye on might be Marcus Smart. While he is currently dealing with an injury, Smart is the heir apparent to Rajon Rondo in Boston. With Rajon Rondo now a Maverick, the Celtics are about to be come his team.
As of right now, Wiggins is the runaway Rookie of the Year, however the season isn’t even half over and there are a number of rookies that can win.
